300 mph in a Road Legal Car

We always like to hear about people pushing the limits when it comes to cars, bikes and engines in general, and when we heard about the Badd GT project we were very keen to see more. The people behind this car have been breaking records for a few years but are now preparing to break 300 mph over a single standing mile strip. Yes, that’s 0-300 mph in one single mile; sounds like fun! Oh and they are very happy to sell you a fully road legal version that will hit 275 mph too!

The Badd GT project is headed up by a man called Johnny Bohmer who, as you might imagine, lives in the US. After years of working on exotic and racing cars Johnny set his heart on building and running the worlds fastest street car. After a lot of time and a lot of money he broke the famous 250 mph barrier back in 2010. He then went on to hit 283 mph in 2012 and now he wants to break the 300 mph mark. It is worth making this clear once again, this is from a standing start over one single mile.

The Car

The car is essentially a Ford GT and despite mountains of work done on the engine the car still looks largely like it did when it came out of the factory. However, when the bonnet comes off the changes are very clear. Two enormous turbo chargers sit just inside the rear bumper and are open to the elements apart from a thin perspex shield and there is a lot of extra pipe work along with a long list of other modifications. There is a parachute attached to the back of the car which does give away some of the car’s purpose but generally the Badd GT looks like a Ford GT, it has even still got most of the original interior.

The stats are a little hazy when it comes to the record breaking car but in terms of what the BADD GT guys are offering for sale they are rather impressive. It is implied that the car they can build for customers is just as fast however, and offers around 1800 bhp. 0-60 mph takes just 2.5 seconds, 0-100 mph just 5.3 seconds and 0-200 mph an eye watering 10.1 seconds. Those kind of stats are almost impossible to comprehend and even more so when you consider that, ignoring cost, this is a car anyone can own and drive on the roads legally. It even comes with a 2 year warranty for those little niggles that always come up with a new car.

The Record

We certainly all want to see the video of a road legal car hitting 300 mph and wish the team the best of luck. Clearly these cars are as good as a one off and are certainly not in the production car bracket but it is still a testament to engineering and they do make one hell of a racket.

If you are building any kind of race car, even if it is not quite as fast as the Badd GT, then get in touch to discuss what fire extinguisher system would suit your project best. Making sure you plan in the fire extinguisher system early on can be a lot easier than doing it once the car is built. However this is not essential and we have experience in selecting and fitting race ready fire extinguishers to a massive range of cars from road rockets to fully fledged racing cars as well as classics and supercars.
